HOW IT WORKS:
I like to schedule newborn sessions a few weeks before the little one gets here. Newborns photograph best within the first two weeks of life, so it is important that I set sometime aside so that when little miss or mister makes their appearance I can be ready to capture them in their best state.
I do newborn sessions in my studio. I've got backdrops, and props galore. I also have the space needed to get a few pictures of the new family before focusing on that new little one. I also am able to heat my studio to a nice and toasty state to keep that precious life as comfortable as possible. Newborn sessions usually take between 2-3 hrs depending on the little one. I like to get those sweet sleeping newborn shots so once we figure out the time the baby is the sleepiest, I like to get started about 30 minutes before to get all set up just in time for the little one to take a nice nap. I like to get the bare bum photos, and babies seems to sleep best when it is nice and warm. When you arrive, we will have Momma feed the baby and get his/her belly nice and full and hopefully settle into a nice deep sleep. We will also want to make sure to loosen the babies diaper about 1 hour before the session so we don't get any marks on the skin. It doesn't always work out perfectly though, babies seem to sense when you want them to sleep, so often times there is a lot of waiting involved... hence the 2-3 hrs. If the baby is wide awake and sleep doesn't look like an option, I like to get some shots of the family during that time.
Afterward, allow for two week processing time for your portraits. I will e-mail you when your gallery is ready with a link to the website. You will then be able to view, share, and purchase your photos all online.
